TowuangSeong Ice Fall

Just within the boundary of Inner Seorak Mountain National Park rises Korea's most magnificent of ice falls. TowuangSeong Ice Fall extends three hundred and twenty meters in length, etching itself against the sky and in the hearts and minds of many Korean alpinists and ice climbers. TowuangSeong or the "Earthly King Fortress" is the longest ice fall in all of East Asia.

Imagine a sub-zero evening bundled up cozily in an expedition-style sleeping bag, waking up a several hours before dawn and making the long rugged two hour approach in the dark to the mouth of a goliath three hundred meter ice fall. As you gain elevation up to the base of the fall, wou gaze over to your left and through the freezing cloud of your breathe, and in slight awe, you notice the deep reddish-orange rays just creeping over the darkly silhouetted peaks to the east.
